Suzuki Kizashi Will Receive Update This Fall

May 10th, 2010

Suzuki Kizashi sedan is on sale for the past few months, but an update of the car is already scheduled to roll as early as this fall.

The update will consist of a minor facelift on the front of the dashboard and interior car and will only affect the more premium GLS and SLS models. The car’s suspension will be reduced by 10 mm to offer sportier dynamics and that the Kizashi the two upper trim levels reflect will be renamed Sport SLS Sport and GLS. The base SE Kizashi, meanwhile, will remain unchanged from the current 2010 model.

The move is designed to strengthen sales of the Kizashi, especially the more profitable GLS and SLS models, by further differentiating them from the base SE. Suzuki’s overall U.S. sales dropped 49 percent this year to just 11,549 units, which comes after a dismal 2009, where sales fell by 54 percent.

Suzuki was also the hope of new hybrid versions of the Kizashi using technology borrowed from General Motors to launch, but those plans were canceled after the sale of U.S. automaker of its 20 percent stake in Suzuki back in 2008. The sale also meant that the V-6 engine offered in the Grand Vitara SUV will no longer be available.
