January 10th, 2010

Issued a recall on all 2010 and 2011 BMW 5-Series and 5 Series Gran Turismo models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published on its website today. The recall is due to a problem with the affected cars, fuel level sensors, they can see indicate more fuel than is actually in the tank.

In essence, the fuel level sensor in the actual fuel can crushed against the tank wall. If this happens, the fuel gauge in the instrument panel appears more than the actual amount of fuel in the tank.

Although the problem may not extremely dangerous, the NHTSA suggests that if the tank was empty, the vehicle could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The affected cars, of which 6080 are a number of units built from January 1912 until 07/01/2010. BMW is not a real schedule or even recall the announcement of a remedy, but letters should go out to customers very soon.

On a side note, more than 5000 2010 and 2011 model year Jaguar’s recall for a problem that can lead to the 5.0-liter V-8 engine stall with little or no warning. In some Jaguar XK Convertible Coupes or the 2010 or 2011 model years, or 2010 Jaguar XF models, the fuel pump and fuel pump relay is not working as they should after a reboot, making the engine and then stumble, stall.
